What is Copilot Cowork?

Here's what's changed and what to do about it.

Microsoft has officially launched Copilot Cowork and whether you've been waiting for it or haven't heard of it yet, there are a few things worth knowing so you're not caught off guard.

The first thing you'll notice: the Work/Web toggle is gone. That familiar toggle at the top of Copilot Chat? It's been replaced by something called Work IQ.

Here's how it works:

Work IQ on (the default); Copilot uses your enterprise data (emails, files, meetings, Teams chats) and web results together. Copilot decides what to pull from based on your prompt.

Work IQ off; Copilot only uses web research and is not grounded in your work data.

If you've spent months learning when to flip between Work and Web, this is a shift!

The second thing you'll notice is Copilot Cowork now sits front and centre inside the Copilot app with its own dedicated workspace.

The difference between Copilot and Cowork matters:

Copilot helps you complete tasks faster, summarise a document, draft an email, pull together notes.

Cowork helps you describe an outcome and lets AI help plan the steps, work across your apps, and hand back a finished result.

Think of Copilot as your assistant. Think of Cowork as a colleague who takes the brief and runs with it. It's moving from "What can AI write for me?" to "What parts of our business could run better if everyone followed the same processes?"

None of this happens without giving people space to learn, experiment, and build confidence building these new processes. This doesn't happen by accident.

That's what we help do at 365 Training Hub. We're help teams get across these changes and then put them into practice; not just understand the features, but to make it practical and learn new ways as to how work can get done.
