AI isn’t replacing our thinking; it’s changing how we think.

When people work with Microsoft Copilot, the biggest shift isn’t speed. It’s the type of thinking that shows up at work.

Here are five “thinking modes”:
-Exploratory thinking; testing ideas and asking “what else?”
-Clarifying thinking; turning messy thoughts into clear words
-Reflective thinking; pausing to sense‑check tone, intent, and meaning
-Critical thinking; questioning outputs and shaping better results
-Confidence thinking; beating the blank page and getting started faster

Depending on what you are doing, here’s a simple way to choose the right kind of thinking in Copilot:

In Copilot Chat (often shown under Auto), you can switch between Quick response and Think deeper.

Quick response is great for writing, summarising, and explaining.
Think deeper is for strategy, planning, research, insights, and decision support.

Copilot works best when it’s treated as support for your thinking but the way we think and use the information really makes the difference.

Which mode do you use most; Quick, or Think deeper?
