AI Adoption Needs Leaders and Licences | 365 Training Hub

We bought AI licences. Did we build the leaders?

It's easy to count how many AI licences an organisation has rolled out. It's much harder to say what we've done to help our leaders lead differently because of them.

That gap matters more than it looks. McKinsey's 2025 Superagency in the Workplace research found that while almost every company is investing in AI, only 1% of leaders describe their organisation as mature in how it's deployed. What we often see is leaders are handed the tools and trained on how to use them, but given little support in how to lead the change.

This means AI transformation belongs on both the IT and HR agenda. The questions that decide whether AI creates value are people questions. Do managers know how to talk with a team member who is anxious about their role? Can they make room for experimentation without losing delivery? Do they role model using the tools honestly, including the bits that don't work yet? Are they redesigning work, or simply adding AI on top of it?

None of those capabilities arrive with a licence key.

Here's a simple test. Take your AI investment over the last 12 months and sort it into three buckets: technology, training people to use the tools, and developing leaders to lead the change. If the third bucket is empty or tiny, you may have found the reason adoption has stalled.
